  1. thanks for the great information Torakis. I unfortunately don't speak or read Japanese and I'll be going home at the end of the month.

The good part is that I come back to Japan two weeks after that :raz: and will try to go on some of these tours.

  2. there are quite a few places from beer to shumai to cheese and milk.

What part of Japan are you looking for?

do you wnat the tours in English or Japanese?

I'm in the Yokosuka area so something relatively close would be great. English would be preferable but my co-workers and I dont really mind if the tours are in Japanese.

  3. Hiroshima style okonomiyaki. Seems to me that most of the okonomiyaki I have encountered outside of Japan is the Kansai or Osaka style.

Some of the kakigori desserts, especially those with the sweet bean paste.

I agree, Hiroshima style okonomiyaki. I think that it would be quite attractive to the western palate (maybe a few alterations in the ingredients though like lots of beef )

I'd have to agree with you there dougery. I tried my first okonomiyaki yesterday and it was difficult for me to finish....too much veggies, it was like eating a big salad :raz:

  4. Maybe I grew up in a strange household but I always thought all rice was supposed to be sticky so using the term "sticky rice" was redundant. Is this a mainland thing or do locals call regular rice, "sticky rice" too.

I tend to think of mochi rice when I hear sticky rice.

  5. You have done everyone a great service with these detailed threads and I am sure that future readers (not to mention me) will greatly appreciate it.

Glad you had a great trip and arrived home safely.

There is alot of great writeups in the Hawaii forums by skchai also, everyone should visit.

    great photos btw!

  6. Hmm, I've only really eaten at golden coin and that was to try the chicken empanadas which I thought were tasty. I've tried great pork adobo from some place in the waipahu area (not sure where since the boss at work told someone to pickup food to eat).
