  1. Going because it is a favorite of a friend that worked nearby at one time.
  2. We have reservations in November.....any reviews....for City Hall...I understand it is about 5 blocks from the Holland Tunnel.
  3. Looking for a nice place to go for dinner...visiting weekend...taking teens that don't enjoy spending alot of time in restaurants! Any suggestions
  4. Got distracted doing a graduation party! Still have my eyes open....want it reasonable and now not locked into outdoor.....but would like bright and airy feel.....by August I think we are all looking to be inside with the AC!
  5. Along Raritan road next to momotaro you have Clark BBQ which is portugese.....To be polite I will say inexpensive.....good value and can be tasty....not gourmet....and not Newark Portugese.
  6. Looking for restaurant with outdoor or very airy indoor seating for summer birthday party. Would prefer Sunday lunch or brunch. Looking within a 5 mile radius of Westfield......possibly...summit, maplewood, south orange, rahway, etc. Any suggestions.....also want to keep it reasonable for approx. 50
  7. In Cranford : Cafe Paris and Cafe Rock....both very nice. Union: Van Gogh's ear
  8. Have had dinner and a few lunches within the past few years...loved it....although lunch was better then dinner.....this was also confirmed by the person that introduced me to the tavern. Love dining on the porch in warm weather.
  9. We usually dine on Saturday night....alone or with couples...depends on the planning. I think the nite and distance question depends on ones home life! We have teens at home so usually during week a little more hectic and tired....and weekends we tend not to stray too far.....you can never let a teen know how far you are going and when you will be home unless the answer is not too long!!!! We prefer byob restaurants because we are not really drinkers...alone many times nothing and with other couples maybe a bottle. I will only go to a restaurant with friends who have similar drinking habits. I don't appreciate chipping in on a $100 bar bill when we had not one! These days with gourmet martini's that adds up quickly. Never entered my mind to bring bottle to restaurant with liquor license. Good to know.
  10. Lreda.....Support your local favorite restaurant before they're closed and you shake your head and say what happened to that place, we were just there 5 months ago.
  11. I am upset that I had to be the one to find this out. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. I really hate to leave a negative review....but......we sat down at 7:15pm....we walked out at 9:30pm and never had our dinner. We were a party of 6. It took them 3 tries to bring me my appetizer of Mozzarella , tomato, and peppers....and even then it wasn't what it was supposed to be! After being frustrated waiting for this the waitress said she found out you get a side salad with your meal!!!!! So why did we order salads!!!! Atone point we looked around and not one table had food on it! We saw other tables packing it up and one table we heard the guy say his lamb tasted like fish and left.. Amazing that during all the delays no one came over and apologized or did anything. Finally when we said we were going to leave the manager came from the kitchen and said they were sorry but the chef had cut himself and they were backed up. (I heard they were 3hrs behind last week) Well that really put a dent in our appetites! To much information. Then he said he would give 20% off our check....big deal. Finally brought 2 dishes out.....ordered Tuna rare.....was not rare nor did it taste like tuna......being the other dishes did not come out.....we just walked out......Never , never has this ever happened. I should have followed my gut ( like in egullet) reaction.....and not try new without some feedback.
  12. I posted to see if anyone had been here...the old South Side Roman Bistro...got no response so tonite we are trying it. Supposedly the chef came out of some restaurant in Hoboken.....so we shall see. I usually like to hear feedback before trying a new one!

  16. Just back from dinner at 89. Had a wonderful dinner....and yes they are still serving kir. Very nice.....The meal was great. Had baby green salad with the goat cheese around a grape....salmon appetizer and sesame white korean tuna....all were excellent. Portions were very small but satisfied. I do know some that would not be satisfied with the size. Wine was very reasonable.....No one wanted to share dessert so I bowed to the peer pressure! Service was slow but not a problem being conversation was good. Will definatlley be back.
  17. The Star Ledger had a nice review as well. Just made reservations for Saturday night and looking forward to it.
  18. How about Chez Catherine in Westfield. It is wonderful, has liquor and was rated one of the best in 2003 by NY Times.
  19. 20. Just got home from an early dinner at Robert's. We thought it was excellent. We got the last table for 2 at about 6:15. The wait can be long on a weekend evening. Only 2 complaints....believe it or not....the food came to quick! We split mesculum salad with pear and sugared walnuts, and the Sampler...steak, chicken and shrimp appetizer....for dinner we both had the pork chop...excellent. I had them double the veggies and drop the potatoe....not a problem for them. Also the breads were very good....walnut raisen especially nice....by the second trip around they did run out of the walnut bread! Settling the bill took a few being they were not used to using the gift certificates. Did not do dessert....rushing to movie. The dessert menu looked...average though. We thought it was quite reasonable....not to mention using ebay certificate. Will definatly go back.
  21. I have been using the gift certificates from restaurant.com for around 6months now.....having a blast with it....it is addicting.....I have used Metutchen Inn, Yu Yee Sushi - twice, Salsa's twice, Brix,Northside Trattoria, and tonite the newly opened Robert's in Garwood (excellent). I have given some away as well. Everytime a smooth transaction. I also have some that I haven't used yet.
