  1. I searched for it when I was in Belgium.. I could not find it.. It is available in some specialty stores in the US. Google "dolfin masala" for some online retailers. (http://www.dolfin.be/infosuk.htm)
  2. I know it is not made in India.. But 'Masala' Chocolate by Dolfin in Belgium is to die for..
  3. There is nothing more Tamil than Idli and Sambhar..
  4. 1. Using broccoli. 2. Using lettuce 3. Using heavy cream instead of coconut 4. Adding sugar to sambhar 5. Readymade rava dosai mix. (if you can ever get it to look as good as it looks on the packaging.)
  5. I have tried atleast 1000 versions of this south indian soup. I do like the westernized 'Mullaghatawny Soup' as well. The best cure for common cold. :) Atleast that's what the southies claim. Here is how I make it. If you have a different version, please post. Boil a third of a cup of Thoor Dhall (yellow gram?) until smooth. In a wok, add 2 tbs oil under medium heat. Add 1/2 tsp mustard seeds wait till they all pop.. Add 1 tsp cumin seeds, 5 pods of crushed garlic, 3 dried red chillies 1/4 tsp crushed coriander seeds. Let it all roast for 30 seconds. Add 3 large diced tomatoes and a pinch of asafoetida and pinch of turmeric. Wait till the tomatoes are soft and well integrated with the rest of the spices (5 min). Add 1 tsp tamarind paste or juice of one lime. Add 2 cups of water. Increase the heat to high. When it starts boiling, add the cooked dhall. Add salt to taste. (1.5 tsp?) Before it start boiling again, remove it from heat. Add 1 tsp crushed black pepper. Garnish with coriander and curry leaves.
  6. 'Cumin' in Cincinnati. The menu is very extensive. It's a very small restaurant in the beautiful Hyde Park neighbourhood. Indo-chinese, South-Indian, North Indian and lots of Indo-Western Fusion. And all of them are very very good. The rasam is as good as the one my mom makes back home. The chinese-fried rice is awesome when requested with light oil and extra chicken. Very few dishes with heavy-cream compared to other Indian restaurants. The service is kinda slow when it is crowded. I think the kitchen is the bottleneck with so many different items to cater.
  7. You are correct about the name of the movie. It IS an aphrodisiac.. Try it out..
  8. I do not recall the name of the movie. I will find out from my friends. I do love the flavor and aroma of drumsticks in Sambar and Lamb Kurma. I agree it is a chore to eat them though. The easiest way I know is to slowly munch on it , enjoy the pulp, and.. continue to chew the heck out of the whole thing.. Mmmmm.... Am gonna go home and cook 'Kari Kulambu'.. My mouth is watering. (Mom is gonna be mad when I wake her up at 5 am ist to ask for a recipe.)
  9. Ah... My first post, after being a lurker for about 2 weeks. Drumstick is considered an aphrodisiac in Madras. I remember seeing a Tamil movie about 15 years ago in which the heroine cooks a 7 course meal, all with drumsticks, to entice the hero.
