  1. Thanks for the hot tip Kristian. They are only a couple of kilometers from where the my trade show will be. Awesome. I will call them today and get their list of premium rum. Martin Wine Cellar actually has two locations, I will try both and see if they have the same selection Cheers P.s.: Did you open your Cruzan Single Barrel YET? If not, do so this weekend, you will not be disappointed. It's great rum, in my top 5. Dan
  2. Greetings, Well I'm back on the road and I'm headed down to New Orleans for a trade show. Of course I will bring back some rum, but need to know where to got to find a strong selection of Premium rums. Any suggestions? I'm looking to stock up on a few more Pampero Aniversarios and a couple new ones. Cheers
  3. Greetings Ed, Thanks for the notes on Doorly's. I am exited about this rum. But, I tend to like the heavy smoky oak rums better, like Pampero Aniversario. I love the Single Barrel, which is on the oak side of rums, but much less than Pampero. I will let you know what I think about it as soon as I get my bottle. About Boyero, I too have never heard of this rum and could not even find the slightest mention about it on the net. I ended up passing on getting a bottle and only bought the Doorly's. Cheers
  4. First question: Planters Cask 23 (Never tried it, but the reports are that it better than one of my favorites, Pyrat XO) Second question: I rotate between the following rums (depending on mood); Pyrat XO, Pampero Aniversario, Cruzan Single Barel, Appleton 21 YO, El Dorado 15 YO and Smuggler's Cove Dark as my "filler" rum to stretch out the premium ones.
  5. Greetings, A buddy of mine is traveling in Michigan and has come across these two rums. I was just wondering if any of you have tried these and if they are any good. The Dooly's is going for $30 and the Boyero is only $15. Cheers Looks like I forgot the r in Doorly's. Sorry...
  6. 6 year old? I have read various reports that it's a blend of rums from 8 to 40 years. I wonder what is right? I cannot find where I saw it listed as upto 40 YO blend.
  7. Jason, The XO is one of my all time favorite rums. It is comparable to the Pistol, but simply better in all aspects. I find that the Pistol is a little too sweet on the long run, and not as "refined" as the XO. BTW, how did you like the XO, how does it compare to others you like? Has anyone tried the XO and The Cask 23? I am wondering how much better it can get than the XO? Cheers
  8. Jason, Maybe I'm not learned enough to tell you exactly what the flavors are that I liked and disliked, but I'll tell you this; every time that I have one of those, it makes me feel sick and I can NEVER finish the glass! It's too thick and overwhelming, too caramely. No insult intended, but to me it tastes like a refined Myers. I do not like the "Myers" tasting rums like; Zaya (the best of "those" rums), Grand Blason, Sea Wynde... I prefer the oaky tasting rums like; Pampero Aniversario, El Derado 15 YO, Cruzan Single Barrel and the "fruity" ones like Pyrat XO and Ron Zacapa. Cheers
  9. I'll drink the high quality rums in my collection with a small piece of ice like: Pampero Aniversario Pyrat XO Cruzan Single Barrel Appleton 21 YO Ron Zacapa Matusalem (Cuba) Anejo Superior Santiago De Cuba Dark ... Others, that I enjoy almost as much depending on the mood, I will drink with Coke only, like: Smuggler's Cove Dark an awesome rum distilled in Jamaica and bottled in Cape Breton, NS Canada. It’s my staple mixing rum that permits me to stretch out my premium rums. What is amazing about this rum is that you can have a fabulous Pampero or Pyrat XO neat , then have a Smuggler's mixed w/ Coke and it's not embarrassed by the Premiums and can hold it's own, although clearly inferior and MUCH younger (~1 to 2 YO). I can only dream of a 7 or 15 YO of this little gem. Matusalem (St. Croix) Classic Black (now sadly discontinued) Cruzan Estate Diamond ...
  10. Greetings, I have not tried Ron Malecon, but I had a similar experience with Sea Wynde rum. It was about $40 USD, (approx. $60 Canadian) and the biggest disappointment since I started rum collecting. In second place would be Grand Blason Oh well, you win some and loose some! Considering all the GREAT rum that I have come across, I can't complain. Cheers
  11. Any sites post the results yet? [EDIT] The September Newsletter has a sneak peak of the winners, on page 6. Click here for the full story. Looks like Ron Zacapa Centenario XO kept the belt, winner Super Premium. But, Zaya beats out Ron Zacapa for the Premium award. A new one for me takes the cake in the regular category, Ron Lorenzo Dark Reserve Happy reading for those of us that could not go, or missed it... Cheers [/EDIT]
  12. ARRHHHHHHHHHH, I can't believe that I missed it. I just saw your post today. I was only a 12 hour drive away (from Montreal). Man, I'm pissed... Oh, well. I'll just have to get my stuff together and NOT miss next year, were ever it is. I thought IFR 2002 was suppose to be in Guatemala due to the festival heavy weight champion Ron Zacapa? Oh well... Until next year friends...
  13. Greetings all, I have communicated with Jim Tirrel from Matusalem a few times via email and phone. Let me try and contact him again to get the scoop on this. I will reply if I am successful. Cheers
  14. Good to see you back, I'm also back... I've been away for a while since the board went down... Cheers
  15. Kendall, Santiago de Cuba is a seperate brand and has been available for quite some time paralle to Cuban Matusalem. They are two diferent brands :)
  16. Have a nice trip. Pick up some Ron Santiago 45 Aniversario and some Ron Matusalem Anejo Superior. Let us know what you find out there amongst the islands! Dan
  17. That's an impressive list Mac. Do you ship to Canada? and can you email me the link to your site privately? Dan
  18. Greetings, I just ran down and checked my bottle of HC 7 YO, it states; "Distilled and Bottled by Corporacion Cuba Ron, Havana Cuba". I bought this bottle in Quebec Canada. Cheers

  20. Greetings BPC, Long time no speak. Since the site went down a while back I have not been back. I'm glad to see that you are still here and still posting controversial Cuban topics. I have tasted both the Grand Reserva (Distilled in St-Croix and bottled in Miami) and the Anejo Superior (Cuba). I do like the Grand Reserva, but find it is a little too smooth with little character. Besides that, it has no bad qualities and is a joy to drink. However, the Cuban Anejo Superior is among my top 5 rums along with Pyratt X.O., Pampero Anniversario, Appleton 21 YO and Cruzan Single Barrel. Cheers
  21. Cheers to you John, nice speech. I read your post as I was sipping a not so refined, but much enjoyed rum (Mount Gay Eclipse). Dan
  22. Greetings, Sorry, I do not know any of those rums. The only rum that I tasted from Panama is Abuelo Ron Anejo. It's rumored to be distilled in Cuba, them shipped to Panama where it is bottled and re-labeled for the USA market. Out of the rums that I have in my collection, it's a 2 out 5 stars. Cheers
  23. Greetings, I extend a warm welcome to you... the more the merrier right? Cheers
  24. CjBohl, The number 45 is in reference to the "45th year anniversary of the revolution". I guess it's now 48 years after and the did not reprint labels so they made "manual" adjustment... Cheers and I'm anxious to hear back from you and your thoughts on those super premium rums. Dan
  25. Greetings and welcome PurosDave, This is the right place to be if you're looking for some rum... Being from Montreal Canada I have the opportunity to purchase HC7. Quite frankly it's by far NOT my favorite rum, sorry Kendall... It should and could be good if only it did not have that Meyer’s like aftertaste. It does have an awesome smell though. Here is a small list of Rums that I prefer more than HC7: Matusalem Anejo Superior (Cuba) Santiago De Cuba Ron Anejo Caribbean Club 7 Anos Flor De Cana Centenario 12 Year Old Flor De Cana Grand Reserve 7 YearOld Matusalem Classic Black (Miami) Pomparo Aniversario Smuggler’s Cove Dark Zacapa Ron Centenario Appleton Estate Extra Appleton Estate 21 Year Old Cruzan Single Barrel Estate Rum Matusalem Grand Reserva (Miami) Mount Gay Extra Old Santa Teresa 1796 Solera Brugal Anejo Grand Reserve Familiar I hope that this will help you out a little. Cheers
