  1. their room service is incredible "Wife on hubby's lap, perhaps?" seems rather sexist "Tag-team dining?" that's more like it

  4. "Can you please comment on the wine list in terms of selection and price?" On the basis of a visit this February, selection is astounding and so are the prices.
  5. only eaten once at pourcels (2003) - thought it the least impressive 3 star we've eaten at anywhere. have eaten many times at marcon (since 1989) and the most recent (four nights in 2003) was the best yet. worth 3 stars? at least, "very nearly".
  6. long shot, but try regis marcon in st bonnet le froid. just got his third star, so you may find that there's a queue. both he and his second have won the bocuse and there are three bonuses: 1. it's one of the most beautiful parts of france that we have ever visited 2. he speaks very good english (worked here way back) 3. he's a very nice man
  7. we ate in a parador once ....... which says it all really.
  8. Oh Tony, I feel your pain. These people would be happy with soggy egg salad sandwiches. They probably have never known any different. If you do manage to bring them to Le Gavroche please put me down for a ticket. I'd love to watch. ← "Oh Tony, I feel your pain." Absolutely darling, I do so agree - they probably keep coal in the bath! I do hope that they're suitably grateful for the civilising influence that they're about to be exposed to.
  9. I've been meaning to bring this up. What's the point of this bit? To show the "sexy" side of Ramsay? Because there really isn't anything sadder that seeing the bare chest of middle aged guy going all soft. ← Congratulations, you may well be the first person ever with the balls to say this. There is no point, but he isn't the first person to suffer from "Emperor's Clothes" synchrome. (Almost literally, in this case).
  10. There's also this http://www.chateaudebrindos.com/uk/base.html which is out near the airport. Stayed there this Summer. Rated quite highly by Gault Millau (17/20) and was good without being really exciting.
  11. some of the most beautiful words in the English language
  12. Not much chance of that I would have thought
  13. very went once, spent a lot of money, impressed by the technical execution of what was on the plate, unimpressed by sommelier's recommendations, chilly vibe, even chillier aircon, haven't been back (and probably won't)

la pyramide at vienne isn't far and is very good
  15. Agree completely. We had the lastminute deal and weren't disappointed in the slightest at getting a different menu - it was well designed, beautifully executed and the service fine. Having been a satisfied customer (both for the cheap deals and full whack stuff), I'm a bit disappointed by the attitude that punters should have to put up with something that the restaurant itself seems to be prepared to regard as second best (or worse). When (if ever) they're fully booked months in advance, perhaps they can afford to be so snooty but, even then, probably not too smart to publicise it so widely.
