  1. One Midtown Kitchen is certainly trendy. Good people watching, strong drinks, and pretty good (albeit pricey) food. I went on my company's tab, and had a ball.
  2. I recently had a Banana Pudding made with homemade vanilla wafers, Myer's Rum, and white chocolate pudding. It was to die for, and still held on to an innate southern-ness.
  3. We've had Krispy Kreme almost as long as GA has (I'm in TN), so the novelty isn't there any longer. But honestly, a hot glazed right off the line is as close to heaven as you can get in that moment. Now I need one, and luckily there is a huge KK down the street, with a huge picture window so you can stand, transfixed, and watch the donuts go by on their little conveyor belt. Yum.
  4. I love the burgers at The Noho Star (corner Lafayette and Bleeker). Their fries are excellent as well. Oooh, why did I ever move away? I would kill for their blue cheese bacon burger. And a homeade ginger ale on the side. Gah.
  5. I've used Splenda to make ice cream (I know, not baking, but I try). I've found that the aftertaste that is sometimes experienced with non-sugar sweeteners is greatly reduced when the dessert is frozen. My diabetic friend was enthralled, and I've got to say, it wasn't half bad.
  6. On, I think, Gideon's website, he makes reference to the cameras coming over to the girl he was making out with (Carrie's?) apartment. Apparently things got a little out of hand and it was deemed too risky for national TV. I am so bad with names. The info is at www.gideonhorowitz.com, I just looked it up.
  7. I had a cold last week and I kept smelling/tasting rotten fish. I made dinner for my family, took one bite, and was convinced I had done something horribly wrong. I was appalled until they all assured me that I am, in fact, crazy. It was all fine, my tastebuds were just confused. My best friend thinks cilantro tastes like soap, but so do a lot of people.
  8. Something about summer always brings on the hot dog, and to a lesser extent corndog, cravings. I usually cave and buy a pack of Hebrew Nationals, fire up the grill, and chow down. So good. I found some servicable vegitarian corndogs (made by Morningstar Farms), that are better for you than the real thing, and almost as good. Almost. Good enough to more than satisfy this girl., and a quick and handy lunch as well.
  9. Lamb is truly the bane of my existence. I also never have to eat it again, since a chef friend of mine swore that "if I try his lamb whatever and I still hate lamb, I never, ever have to eat it again." I still hate lamb. It's too bad, because some lamb dishes smell so divine, but then there is that taste. Something like what I imagine pureed bird feathers to taste like.
  10. I had real Absinthe when I was living in Slovakia (where it is still legal). It made me very warm and kind of blurred the edges of everything around me. No hallucinations, exactly, but not your average buzz. I don't know what the point of this "Absente" is if there is no wormwood in it. Isn't that the whole point?
  11. But can any Jell-O nightmare story beat my grandmother's Chicken Salad Jell-O? Boiled chicken, canned chicken broth, plain gelatin, and celery--set in a jello mold--with a generous dollop of Miracle Whip on top? A more foul substance has never passed my lips (I had to try "just one bite"). Edited because "foul" and "foal" are very different words.
  12. I had a brief flirtation with Lay's Dill Pickle chips, but I think I overdid it. I'm back to my old standards: Salt and Vinegar (any brand, really) Terra Chips (on special occasions, as they are pricey) Kettle Chips Aged Cheddar and Herbs Lays Sour Cream and Onion (for those time when I'm feeling nostalgic for my youth) But really, I'll eat almost any chip. I can hardly keep them in the house, I love them so much. Especially Kettle Chips....yum.

    Kiwi Fruit

I was going to recommend Pavlova as well. And smoothies. But my favorite thing to do with a perfectly ripe kiwi is to cut in in half, dig out the flesh with a spoon, and eat. I love kiwi.
  14. I don't know how long you will be in Nashville, but I had an incredible meal at Acorn a few weeks ago. Will you be in any other parts of TN, or are you sticking to "Music City"?
