  1. I second the motion on Beyond Pita. Not as good as Alfanoose (near where I work in downtown Manhattan) but excellent for this area.
  2. The second floor location had a fire -- it's got to be a year ago now. The Brasilia Grill location still has good food, but the biggest difference is that they are not BYO.
  3. I didn't make it today -- but my son went with a friend. He had the hot dog with bacon; he preferred it to Rutt's -- he liked the bigger, meatier dog which, to his palate, stood up better to frying. He loved the fries (but told me not to get a large unless I had a couple other people with me...).
  4. Another vote for Alfanoose - 8 Maiden Lane
  5. Panarroz Jumilla -- available < $7 Capcanes Mas Donis ($9.99 at wine library) J&f Lurton Rueda White (<$8)
  6. I am at work in NYC today -- so I am unlikely to make the first day. I do live about 2 miles away, though -- so I will be there soon. I stopped in on Saturday -- no food, but friendly people.
  7. I stopped in here earlier in the week. I thought the Blue Spoon Blend drip was excellent. Wish it were closer to my office.
  8. I have never eaten in -- but have taken out several times. It is okay -- but that makes it the best pulled pork sandwich in the neighborhood...
  9. I have had several good lunches at Montparnasse, on E 51st. They have a $20 lunch with choices that include duck terrine as a starter and coq au vin or steak frites as a main course. (The coq au vin is $19 at dinner). When I have lunch here, I am usually so full I skip dinner.
  10. Nobody has commented on your initial thought of Chanterelle. I have had excellent experiences there. Not only is the food superb, but I find the space and service very enjoyable. Their tasting menu is $105 for food plus an additional $75 for matched wines. Their website (which shows the current menu) is www.chanterellenyc.com.
  11. The information above re the location of the Montclair market is no longer correct. It moved last year to the parking lot of the Walnut Street train station (on Walnut about a block off Grove). I have, however, had the same problem as the poster above about non-local produce (which is marked local). I asked the market "manager" this past Saturday about the rules for non-local produce. He said that he had "no idea," but "sine all these guys are farmers, they're probably growing it." Thanks. FWIW, the Montclair market is better later in the summer when the odds of local produce improve.
