  1. Here's the product page if anyone is interested. I'm glad to see the product line isn't dead. I was sort of hoping they would add a weight sensor to it, like the now defunct Njori Tempo.
  2. What's the procedure for doing that? I tried the holding of the Wi-Fi and start but it isn't responsive. If I had to guess, it isn't getting far enough in the boot process to recognize the input.
  3. It was the firmware update and luckily is under warranty although I'd prefer to unbrick the device if possible
  4. My apologies for being unclear, it's slang saying that the device has a similar usefulness to a brick. The oven won't start at all and can't be used.
  5. Just some speculation about the update, since Anova isn't putting out a ton of information. I saw in a repository reverse engineering the Anova Oven app that Anova is using Google Cloud IoT Core for communication with the oven. Google being Google, they decided eleven months ago that they'll kill the service and provided no help to any of the vendors in migrating to an alternative service [1]. The service will be shutdown on August 16, which makes the August 15th update deadline Anova published start to make more sense. As an aside, I actually ran the update yesterday on my oven and it bricked it. When plugged in, the speaker lets out a popping noise and segments of the display blink at random intervals. I have a hunch the update may have been a bit rushed. Footnotes [1] As an interesting side note, Google Cloud IoT Core was actually created to replace another Google service, Android Things, which they killed three years ago.

    Two-jacket Potatoes

I've been trying to replicate two-jacket potatos from the 2014 Chicogo Steakhouse menu at Grant Achatz and Nick Kokonas' Next restaurant in Chicago. Two intact halfs is the goal. Regarding the dental impliments, I scooped out the majority of the potato flesh and then used the dental tools to scrape off any remaining flesh so that only the skin remained. I did try the scoring and blanching as seen in the video but had issues with the skin tearing. Perhaps I just lack a bit of finesse and need some practice. 7. Forgive me if this is absurdly obvious, but is there a method to easily separate potato from it's skin without ripping the skin. I tried blanching but was unable to get the skin off in one piece. In the end I used dental scraping tools with some success, but the process was fairly laborious.
