  2. I have enjoyed many a wonderfully aged, rare steak at McKendrick's here in Dunwoody .. they offer the usual (large!) sidedishes which I love as much as the steak itself sometimes ....

    McKendrick's Steakhouse

McKendrick's has a warm, clubby atmosphere with more than ample lush leather seating, solid oak walls and art deco lighting. The music is purely Frank, Dean Sammy and Tony.

Highly rated by the Zagat Survey 2003, 2004, 2005 as clearly one of the best steak houses, top quality beef and huge a'la carte side dishes are brought to table by a courteous staff.

  3. "The site is strategically located near the intersection of I-285 (the Perimeter) and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard making it a highly accessible and visible location."

It is at the exit on I 285 for Peachtree Industrial Boulevard ... very simple to find on a local map ... no Big Chicken, no Highway 41 at all ...

  4. A definite "yes" to Bacchanalia, where my husband and I had an incredible dinner for our 40th anniversary last winter ... we were entranced at their presentations, taste of the food, and ambiance ...

I also liked Restaurant Eugene as well but nowhere near Bacchanalia ... and we enjoyed the Ritz-Carleton very much on another anniversary .. very classy indeed!

  5. Near Brands Smart actually if this is the place you have been discussing ....

  6. Wine Spectator Online offers a lovely in-depth perspective on this important and well known oenophine/vintner as well ...

In a career that spanned eight decades, Mondavi often led by example, setting lofty goals for his winery and inspiring California winemakers to make wines that would compete with the best in the world. His name, influence and passion for wine and life spread well beyond Napa and California. Winemakers around the world credited Mondavi with encouraging them to set higher standards and make better wines.

  8. Old thinking: turducken rules!

New thinking: The Love Roast !

The Love Roast: 12 Days of Christmas birds

"The True Love Roast has a bird for each of the 12 days of Christmas.

"It uses skinless breast meat from several birds of each species with flavours that work well together."

The roast contains turkey, goose, chicken, pheasant, partridge, pigeon squab, Aylesbury duck, Barbary duck, poussin, guinea fowl, mallard-and quail with herb and fruit stuffings.

  9. I predicted this when the show was moved to the 7 p.m. timeslot.  I told my husband that Emeril was slowly but surely being phased out (along with the real chefs like Mario Batali).

Today I read, among the many articles on this, that the move to an earlier time slot made little or no difference .. the ratings were no higher ... and it is all about ratings ...

Maybe 10 years of anything, no matter how good, is enough ...

  10. Over the years, I have tried out a number of new recipes for a variety of different latkes only to still crave the classic potato latke with sour cream and a dollop of caviar ... at heart, I have to admit to being a purist for this dish ...

  12. Does anyone have any experience with Viking?

Not personally but you might want to read about Viking here (scroll down):

    Gastromaniac's

The 24 Inch Viking Professional Dishwasher is without a doubt the worst product I’ve ever owned. How bad does it suck? I wouldn’t recommend the 24 Inch Viking Professional Dishwasher to my enemies. Let me count the ways in which I hate this product:

Rust spots on the door. How this is possible, I don’t know, as the door is supposed to ....

  13. the history of ice cider is relatively new: it is a signature Quebecoise product developed in 1989, a spin-off from the ice wine production that took off in Ontario in the 1970s.

The man generally credited with the creation of cidre de glace is Christian Barthomeuf, the cider maker at Domaine Pinnacle and the owner of his own vineyard, Clos Saragnat, both in Frelighsburg.

“One day, I was very depressed,” he said. “And I thought, why don't I try something new?”

Having made ice wine, he hit upon the idea of ice cider. “And it worked, and here we are,” he said.

  14. Between my vegan daughter who hates mushrooms and my kosher husband who hates mushrooms, Thanksgiving became a hellacious experience for me who enjoys cooking for this holiday ...

I stuff acorn squash with cranberries and apples poached in port ... they eat the fruit-filled vegetables and I drink the port .. end of anxiety ...
