Splurged on wild-caught lump crab meat from Costco...highly recommend. It's $33 a tub, but we get 6 good sized servings out of one. I bought this tartar sauce at Safeway (grocery chain here in AZ) and must say it's quite good! The croissants are so buttery they charred quickly in the toaster, but tasted fine.
  3. on that new , out of box item , above from @Shelby 's ref they offer a protection paln , from allstate : very odd , as who is going to fix it ? not Allstate. maybe the actuaries noted nothing is going to happen for two eyars and see ' free money ? '
  4. It’s a bit of a process, but keep at it, it’s worth the effort.
  5. Sadly, those are not especially reliable. It's especially problematic when writing about hands-on topics (like cooking, or DIY, or what have you) because there are only so many ways to say "add the wet ingredients to the dry," "tighten the bolts," etc. The AI-checkers are even worse (ie, the tools intended to identify blocks of text that may have been created by generative AI), and several of them were pulled from the market after their makers were forced to concede that they were about as effective as a Magic 8-ball.
  6. @DesertTinker You are a dear. Thank you!
  7. Panasonic had the dimensions on their Canadian Site. They list it as 320mm across (12.6") by 220mm high (8.66") and 280mm deep (11.02") for .7 cubic feet. Not very big.
  8. OMG I'm taking over your thread lol. This one on EBAY says it's been taken out of the box but never used.....I'd pull the trigger on it...... “The oven is new, never used. It has been taken out of the box and put back in. It has a tiny dent (1/16") on the edge. User guides are included. Grills and trays are still sealed in original packaging.”Read Lessabout the seller notes
  9. BTW, I had that noise happen sporadically. Very high pitched and annoying. It hasn't happened for quite a while now, though. I'd hit the cancel button and then restart and that would end it most of the time. I'm jinxing myself I bet lol.
  10. Here are instructions for another brand of the same product. This is a starter culture for making “sourdough starter”, it’s not used directly from the packet like regular dry yeast. Activation Instructions Initial Mixing: In a clean glass or plastic container, combine: 1 tablespoon of the dry Lievito Madre starter 50 grams (3 ½ tablespoons) of lukewarm water (around 86°F / 30°C) 50 grams (⅓ cup + 1 teaspoon) of unbleached all-purpose or bread flour Stir thoroughly until a smooth, lump-free batter forms. Ferment: Cover the container loosely with a lid or cloth to allow airflow. Place it in a warm, draft-free area (ideally between 75–80°F / 24–27°C). Let it ferment for 24 hours. Feeding Schedule: After 24 hours, discard half of the starter. Feed the remaining starter with: 50 grams (3 ½ tablespoons) of lukewarm water 50 grams (⅓ cup + 1 teaspoon) of flour Mix well and return it to the warm spot. Repeat this feeding every 24 hours for 5–7 days.Monitoring Activity: Watch for bubbles, a rise in volume, and a pleasantly sour but mild aroma. By day 5 or 6, your starter should double in size within 4–6 hours of feeding—ready for baking! Using Your Lievito Madre Once active and bubbly: In Recipes: Replace commercial yeast with your Lievito Madre in breads, pizzas, focaccias, etc. Note: this starter is usually firmer and less hydrated, so recipes may need slight hydration adjustments. Flavor: Expect a mild, slightly sweet flavor, typical of traditional Italian sourdough. Storage & Maintenance Short-Term: Keep at room temperature and feed it daily. Long-Term: Refrigerate and feed once a week. Before baking, bring to room temperature and give 1–2 feedings to revive activity. Tips for Success Flour: Use high-quality all-purpose or bread flour. Water: Filtered or dechlorinated water helps prevent inhibition. Consistency: Feed on a regular schedule to keep it happy and strong.
  11. I've never bought anything off of this place and the shipping it absolutely ridiculous but they have 99 of them in stock (supposedly) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3256809011274309.html?src=google&pdp_npi=4%40dis!USD!541.93!216.77!!!!!%40!12000048267529673!ppc!!!&src=google&albch=shopping&acnt=708-803-3821&isdl=y&slnk=&plac=&mtctp=&albbt=Google_7_shopping&aff_platform=google&aff_short_key=UneMJZVf&gclsrc=aw.ds&&albagn=888888&&ds_e_adid=&ds_e_matchtype=&ds_e_device=c&ds_e_network=x&ds_e_product_group_id=&ds_e_product_id=en3256809011274309&ds_e_product_merchant_id=5598506907&ds_e_product_country=US&ds_e_product_language=en&ds_e_product_channel=online&ds_e_product_store_id=&ds_url_v=2&albcp=20546179816&albag=&isSmbAutoCall=false&needSmbHouyi=false&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=17338725097&gbraid=0AAAAAD6I-hGBKPcfqsHHPxz-Yq5sHPumF&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrOmKkOHLjgMVKZzuAR258BLXEAQYEyABEgKTzvD_BwE
  12. I feel your pain, too. I gave both of Ronnie's daughters one for Christmas in 2019. One uses it ALL the time and loves it. As far as I know the other one has never even taken it out of the box. I've BEGGED her to sell it back to me multiple times. I'm not sure why she won't --prolly because I want it so badly lol. I'll try again but I doubt she'll let it go. Back then I paid $160 for one.
  13. Today
  14. That's an idea, buying one for parts - but it's really hard to access the fan area - I'd rather not drill out any rivets to get to it as that's what seems like would be necessary.
  15. Thanks. I checked Ebay, but I'd prefer to not buy a used oven. I couldn't find any open box or new. I did find some other options like a new Panasonic 7-in-1 steam oven and a few others, but they don't have many reviews and the Panasonic doesn't even list interior dimensions!
  16. I likewise feel your pain. There are a couple of them on eBay as @rotuts noted. Maybe buy an ebay one and then try to fix the one you have? 🙁
  17. Well, they are both made in the US but sold here in Mexico with only Spanish on the box. "President" is the label on both, and bought in Costco (not from a cheese merchant). Obviously not fine examples of the cheeses. The brie has been used up (and I did actually grate it for one use) but the camembert is intact in its packaging. I will put it out on the counter for a few days to see if it will actually soften enough to be spreadable on a cracker. I know this is mass-produced cheese, but surely it will ripen a little more once out of the fridge. I remember the original purchaser serving wedges of the brie, probably fresh from the fridge and hence flavorless, and the texture wasn't anywhere close to what I think of as brie. This is not the first time this particular person bought the cheeses at Costco and served them at informal get-togethers. The camembert is now resting on the counter. I'll report back in a few days when I try it. I admit to liking stinky, oozy cheeses when given a choice. My mom used to talk about my German great-grandmother who loved limburger, so perhaps I come by it honestly. It had to be kept outside because it would stink up the house. I don't recall if they made her eat it outside as well!
  18. @KennethT I feel your pain. this on eBay ? https://www.ebay.com/itm/167597311994?_skw=cuisinart+steam+oven&epid=16053452336&itmmeta=01K0M5DAND9H7Z3WJWG9D7FXK2&hash=item27059407fa:g:7-QAAOSwoytoUzgr&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA8FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1fxm7bF%2FIeK4Xj%2FWx5Np1zMbYO1qwStuyTgYXMPVsyQOJfIwlhaH%2B8d1FW4hR8Eb6jOQjHbDYVsNKhluKXf4HIKjDC2bv%2BYI77qICLW5nVeER04cL3gUL4%2FvGM84yAQ1DDqCBRTP66z6nyPjlRov%2FSKiY%2Bq8zejCV1iViX6Or38%2FEYLSNoIlUmwkfGonsGgmQAztvVJ39bSssBXJCa5VQcFI01QlMZUKUuRKlAG%2FKF5Lvd3oCmwLTY6eIk5MtgIlF4zuKsxWXCjEVeEYGnJso8FW6nM6x1GL3YfZ%2Bhqx6MyNg%3D%3D|tkp%3ABFBM7qq1hYVm
  19. hey Everybody - I know quite a few of those here who use their CSO a lot had bought spares, which may or may not be still sitting in a box in the garage (or bedroom) or somewhere.... So now I'm begging one of you to think about letting one go.... I'm pretty sure that @rotuts, @Shelby, @JoNorvelleWalker, @gfweb and maybe a few others have one. If you know of someone not listed, please add to the list. The fan (more likely a bearing) in my current CSO has been making a horrible squealing noise sporadically for some time now. Sometimes you can turn off the oven and turn it back on to solve the problem, sometimes it won't. I'd be happy to disable the fan but I'm pretty sure it's necessary for anything steam related. I tried taking the oven apart to access the fan, but there's a plastic piece in front of it (the part that's adjacent to the water tank) that seems like it's attached to the entire outer case and I don't really see how to get it off without drilling out some rivets. Plus, once I get it off, who knows if I can even replace the fan assembly or the faulty bearing. So, I'm humbly imploring this group to take pity on a wayward CSO owner who didn't have the foresight to buy an extra one and sell me one of yours. I can furnish a UPS call tag and have UPS come to you to pick up, and I can make payment through Zelle, check, wire transfer, envelope full o' cash or any other way you'd prefer. Please PM me if you are willing to help!!! Thank you!!!

    Plagiarism

remember the common denominator : $$$ always tough to beat.
  21. maybe, maybe not. Now, with AI, it's easier to check to see if what you have written was plagiarized - publishers can run text through it (even Grammarly has an AI function that checks for plagiarism now) and refuse to publish something if they find a high enough percentage of similarity to previous works.

    Plagiarism

In my opinion, with AI, it's only gonna get worse.
  23. I learned last year that our little Wembley also has a taste for the tomatoes. Fortunately he's a small dog, and could only get the literal low-hanging fruit. Everything is late in my garden this year (or more accurately, I was late with everything in my garden this year) but the greens are coming, and the garlic is almost ready, and I just picked 250g of shelled peas (a little over a half-pound) from the first row I'd planted (and our rabbits loved the pods). A couple more rows are just beginning to form pods, and I've bought additional seed for a few late rows that should begin to mature as the summer heat starts to fade. I'm still breaking new ground in my garden patch; at the beginning of this year I only had about 60% of the available space bedded up and planted. The lower area (ie, the unused space) seems to have a somewhat more favorable ratio of stones:soil, so I'm digging down instead of framing beds in scrap lumber. I'm going to try a late July/early August planting of cauliflower, since spring plantings never seem to amount to anything for me here (our springs just don't seem to last long enough for cauliflower or spinach to flourish before the hot weather). Still struggling with basil, which doesn't seem to be a problem for most gardeners (and wasn't for me either, out west) but which has been a delicate prima donna in my current garden. It's irritating. It's not that Costco's pesto isn't perfectly acceptable for day-to-day use, but... that's not the point.
  24. Yeah, notably Eliza Acton. I downloaded Acton's cookbook from Project Gutenberg at one point, for an article I was writing. It was an interesting read, though it must be said that I'm a soft touch where vintage cookbooks are concerned.
  25. The guy is topping a sweet yeast dough base with (deseeded and halfed/quartered) Marillen (apricots). They are hugely popular in the Alps region. After baking it will likely be glazed with slightly diluted apricot jam.
  26. ok thanks man. and can you also tell me what the fried-looking things are directly above the "strawberry tartlets"?
  27. Still blurry on magnification, but based on color of the round objects layered onto what looks like a pastry base, their uneven size distribution and what looks like tiny dot on the surface I stick with Erdbeer Tartelette (or strawberry tartlet), a popular Austrian (and German) dessert. Shortcrust shell, filled with vanilla cream or pudding, topped with (sometimes macerated) strawberries and glazed with a bit of strawberry juice mixed with gelatine (cf. above posted link).
