We're deeply saddened to announce the death of eG Forums host Matt Hassett (M.X. Hassett). Before joining the eGullet Society staff, Matthew was a dynamic eG Forums participant, particularly in the New York, New Jersey and Fine Spirits and Cocktails forums. He added a great deal to our staff and to our discussions, and he will be greatly missed.

The following is Matt's family's announcement, with details of the memorial service and information on donations.

August 01, 2006

Hassett, Matthew, age 22, of Teaneck, died on Tuesday August 1, 2006. Loving son of James and Dora Hassett. Dear brother of Stephen, Jill and Suzette Febre-Hart. Loving Uncle of Sarah and Charlotte Hassett. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a service on Saturday at 1:30PM at the Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Road, Teaneck, NJ 201-836-0202. Visitation will be 11:00AM to 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to the Hemophilia Association of NJ 197 Route 18 So. Suite 206 North, East Brunswick, NJ 08816 would be greatly appreciated by the family.
