Onion & Garlic

Years ago I had an Italian friend that told me one should never put onion and garlic into the same dish. The flavors fight with each other, she said. One overwhelms the other. They do not compliment each other. "It's never done in Italy," she said. "Pick one or the other."

I've not heard this elsewhere, and many of the Italian recipes I've seen do call for both.

So what's the story?

no story and no truth to it, i have heard it too and have consistantly diregarded it to no obvious damage mb
