Best cocktail reference books

I started drinking cocktails around the time that Hot Wired had a whole section of their site dedicated to cocktail mixing, parties, and lore. I used it all the time. Unfortunately, it's been left unmaintained for ages now and it starting to get unreliable.

Can you recommend any books that give great cocktail history, stories and recipes?
