Last night, quite by accident, I came across This movie - I Like Killing Flies on Netflix. I highly recommend it. It's a documentary about a real hole-in-the-wall greasy spoon in NYC and the quirky owner.

I own the DVD AND I bought the cookbook. I watch this about once a year. LOVE it.

Yes, that's the relatively new place in the Essex St. Market. I've eaten lunch there a couple of times, and have seen them throw people out who take too long to order as well as not seat any parties greater than 4.

I haven't been to the current place and never made it to the first one, but ate at the second place in the West Village a few times. All the wacky stories are true, but I gather that the first version where it was just a few tables set up in a corner grocery was the most interesting incarnation.
