Anyone know where you can buy a whole goose in NYC and outter boroughs?

Thanks.

I see so many of them in parks, but not in stores. :-)

I am able to buy fresh goose at my local Whole Foods. Maybe yours has them, too.

Quattro's at the Union Square Greenmarket for a fresh goose, but it would be wise to call ahead and reserve one for the day you plan to pick it up.

Fairway and Ottomanelli's are good bets, likely frozen, so plan ahead.

Excellent fresh goose is available at both Ottomanelli and Florence Meat Market, around the corner from each other in the West Village.

I'd call ahead to check availability - giving them 24 hours to order is always a good idea.

When I went to pick up my turkey at Ottomanelli yesterday (again - the one on Bleecker Street, not the uptown one which is an unrelated company I believe), the guy ahead of me was picking up a very large fresh goose.

Thanks guys.

Went to Fairway, they had geese.

$4.00 a lb.

I figured, considering skin, fat, bones, head, neck, wings, giblets, feet, ---

It probably came to $25.00 a lb.

Oh well, once a year. :-)

Save the fat drippings, and render any fatty trimmings. A goose can put out more than 2-3 cups of goosefat. I roast a goose occasionally mainly to collect the fat for other purposes. Eating the goose is a bonus.

And the rendered fat lasts for months in the fridge.

And I think I saw geese (frozen) in Chinatown, though I'll have to look the next time I walk around.
