I recently moved from Victoria to Vancouver and was surprised to find a lack of great bread. So far the best has been Ace Bakery bread at the Superstore!!!!!!!!!
I've been spoiled by Wild Fire and Fol Epi and Church Bakery in Comox.
I realize this question keeps getting asked but I'm still stuck on where to get decent, slow rised, natural yeast, possibly wide fired oven bread.
Any suggestions?
Bread in Vancouver: I know it's been asked, has it been answered?

I haven't found anything equivalent to Wild Fire and Fol Epi here (haven't been to the Comox bakery) but if you find something please let the rest of us know. Good luck.
Cheers,

Beyond Bread (aka Transylvanian Bakery) on W4th, near Alma makes delicious slow risen, hearty, substantial breads. No longer wood fired as they were at their previous location but their peasant loaf is still my favourite bread in Vancouver
A similar style bakery, Romania Bakery can be found in Steveston. They do have a wood burning oven I think.
Also look out for Whistler's Purebread at the farmers markets ( - interesting variety of artisanal breads (I love their honey-lavender bread). Find their schedule here: http://www.purebread.ca/#!markets

Thanks for all the suggestions. Keep them coming.
So far Beyond Bread is the best I've had. Still have a bunch to try.

Our team at Foodtree is a big fan of A Bread Affair's stuff, especially their 100 Mile Loaf. They're at most of the local farmers markets.

Bread and Butter - small start up; small selection, great product.
[full disclosure; I know these people, I know this bread, they don't know I'm posting this....]

Thanks. The bread looks great. I'll give it a try. I hope the inside is as good as the crust.

Liked Bread Affair Bread, didn't love it. I would class it as a good loaf but has a ways to go to get near greatness. Vancouver deserves great bread.
