Looking to pick up some pink salt/curing salt. Thanks for any help.

Did you try Kroger?

John is right. I picked some up for brining last week in Kroger. Pink salt would require Whole Foods or Fresh Market or Chef's Warehouse (northside anyway).

Thanks. I actually asked the guy behind the kosher deli counter at the Toco Hills Kroger a couple days ago; he told me that they didn't carry it, and that he had no clue where to find it.

(The project here is to make home-made corned beef.)

Based on that conversation I got the sense that these salts were not readily available at regular markets. I'll try again.

Yeah, just look in the spice/salt section. Several choices I might add.

They have a kosher deli at the Toco Kroger? Really?

I just tried the Kroger on Briarcliff, at Johnson, and there was nothing -- three staff members consulted with each other and none had even heard of curing salt/pink salt (which I expained to them in detail - sodium nitrate, nitrite, etc) before.

Which Kroger did you go to? Thanks for your help/interest. Also, just to be clear, we're both talking about this sort of product, right?

Toco Hills: Yes, kosher deli there, and kosher butcher/poultry/etc as well. Huge selection of dry kosher goods as well.

Nope, my bad. I was thinking canning salt etc. Sorry.

Somewhere in Atlanta has to have it though. I will help look as I have a similar project and report back.

Just got an answer in the Cooking forum, actually. (Check the thread on the book "Charcuterie"). Apparently the SuperTarget at Perimeter carries Morton's Tender Quick, which is one of the branded curing products I was looking for.

Thanks!

Call Scott at Watershed. He uses the stuff (at least I think he does) and I'm sure he would be happy to sent you in the right direction. Better yet, go eat dinner and ask him then. It's a win/win if you do that. I highly recommend the salmon croquettes. Oh boy, do I like them.

I forgot what I got the one time I went to Watershed, some piece of fish I think, but I will not forget the salmon croquettes that I shared with my cousin. Those things are good.

Try Pataks they make sausages, cured meats, etc... My Restaruant 5seasons Brewing Company uses them to buy sausages and curing salts, casings, etc. from them. They also sell to regular customers, they are located in Austelle, GA and have a website.

In case anyone is still looking, Bass Pro Shop (I-85 at Sugarloaf Parkway, adjacent to Discover Mills) carries LEM Cure, which is pink salt. They also carry grinders, casings, vacuum sealers (and bags), and a bunch of other charcuterie-related stuff. I haven't compared prices.

I also found it at Super H Mart labeled as homemade bacon mix and is the Por Kwan brand.
